Social Hour

After getting off of work this morning I was able to enjoy a few hours of sleep.  Calan was asleep in his OWN bed so I was able to snuggle in with Cody until my coughing became so out of control we knew it was time to get up.

To Lowe's we went.

We had only just walked in when Kenny spotted us!  We love Kenny & don't get to see him at Lowe's much anymore because he now does deliveries for them.  Calan was on best behavior as usual & had everyone that passed making all the "he's so cute" comments.

A woman walked up & asked which isle she could pick up one of those.

We heard stories from employees about their children, how fast they grow up & what a great baby we have - like this is something that we don't know.

(see cody in the background getting "professional" help?)

It had been over an hour & Cito was on his last smile.  It was only after filling one cart and one flat bed cart-thingy that we realized everything was not going to fit into our car with Calan's car seat (oh & Calan, too).

Cody had to drop us off at home & go it alone back to get our stuff.  It sure is different with a baby on board.

Transitioning

We've made the BIG MOVE!

Calan has always slept in our bedroom.  For the first couple of weeks he actually slept in our bed with us (even though many criticized & feared for his life -ha!).  Once he was sleeping for more than an hour or so at a time, we moved him into a bassinet directly across from our bed - still in our room.  He has safely & happily been there ever since.

I started getting sick last Sunday & it has finally turned into a full-blown cold.  My coughing keeps me, Cody, the dogs, and now Cito awake at night.  It was time for some real decision making & we knew it was time to take matters into our own hands.  Cody & I moved his lamb skin, Sally (his glow sea horse) and set up the video monitor, so that we were prepared for his every move, into HIS room.  Up until now the only time he has ever spent in his bedroom is when we take him in there to watch/feed the fish, pick out clothes in the morning & at night, and getting a towel for bath time.

Cito fell asleep early by his standards around 11:30p last night in our room.  Cody then placed him into his crib on lambs.  The monitor was on.  We then did 3 more sound checks after he was already in place.

So far, so good.

He slept like the baby that he is.
No problems.
No change in schedule.
Mission Complete.

And they make it look so hard on Super Nanny!

Nostalgia

It's a snow globe outside & we are in our pjs.

Calan has found a new interest in 1970's Bugs Bunny cartoons.  He has not yet been too interested in television but I thought that I would try out the netflix cartoons.

We spent the morning/early afternoon with friends and I haven't been able to get any sleep yet today.

What's next? Am I going to soon be plugging him into video games so I can get some sleep between shifts?

I'm turning into one of those parents!

CHRISTmas in January

After spending an evening with friends this weekend, they offered to give Calan a Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumper!  He is in LOVE. His little arms pump away in the air every time we place him in it.  He's able to use his pudgy feet to turn the seat around from activity to activity.  When Hudson tries to lick his face he pulls himself around and is protected by the "roll bars."

These bright, beautiful toys seem to be consuming our home at a top rate of speed.  I thought that I could get away with keeping everything looking the way it always has (pre-Cito) but I'm not doing a very proficient job.  It's not my fault that I love the way he looks at shiny new things. I feel the same way when I look at muted colored paint chips in Lowe's.  He continues to draw me into this primary colored world and I have to admit - it's not as bad as I had expected.

Screech Owl- which I originally thought Cito sounded like ~but~ after a little research I realize now that it's a classic red tailed-hawk screech!

points to ponder...

  • Why are there braille dots on a drive-through ATM keypad?
  • Why is the fear of long words hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia?
  • If vegetarians eat vegetables, what do humanitarians eat?
  • Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
  • Why don't psychics predict the winning lottery numbers and retire?
  • If 'pro' is the opposite to 'con', is Congress the opposite to progress?
  • If it is illegal to drink and drive, why do bars have parking lots?
  • If firefighters fight fires, what do freedom fighters fight?
  • Who put an 's' in the word lisp?
  • If sunflower oil is made of sunflowers, what is baby oil made of?
  • How do they get the deer to cross at that yellow road sign?
  • If something was misspelled in a dictinary how would we know?
  • If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?
  • Why is it called tourist season if you cant shoot them?
  • If nothing sticks to teflon how does teflon stick to the pan?
  • Why are there flotation devices under plane seats instead of parachutes?
  • If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors?
  • Why does an alarm clock "go off" when it begins ringing?
  • How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
  • Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

*splish* *splash*

We spent an extra long time taking a bath this morning.  Daddy continues to work overtime and needs his sleep. We try to sneak out of the bedroom and today we stayed upstairs and splashed until he woke up.  Hudson was especially helpful this morning.  He licked and licked the side of the bath tub, the little rubber duckies when Calan would hold them in the air and the faucet.  Calan kept making screeching "pterodactyl" noises which would only make Hudson more excited.  He would hold his bath book up to him as if he were sharing the pictures.  Can't wait for summer when the two of them can actually swim together!

someone woke up on the right side of the bassinet

when mommy's away... little fingers will play

We were rushing around the house getting ready to leave this morning & thought that Calan would be perfectly safe & sound in his bumbo chair atop the kitchen counter.

Not so much.

We heard the small pebbles, one by one dropping, & when I poked my head into the kitchen he didn't even look up.

I guess when you don't know the feeling of guilt it's kinda hard to feel guilty.

His movements are so jerky sometimes.  It's so funny to watch his stubby little fingers open & close. None of them seem to work together and his depth perception is still WAY off.

laugh  [laf, lahf] –verb (used without object) 1. to express mirth, pleasure, derision, or nervousness with an audible, vocal expulsion of air from the lungs that can range from a loud burst of sound to a series of quiet chuckles and is usually accompanied by characteristic facial and bodily movements.

How to Win Friends and Influence People

Looks like Andrew has officially joined Calan and boarded the Carrot Train.

teeth are overrated

Today we came prepared.  Man's best friend to the right and a plastic coated bib.
You would think that this would be enough to keep a white shirt clean...

Why are white shirts even made for babies?

We couldn't keep up with the spoon-to-mouth pace that Cito wanted us at today. After every bite he would say "ughmmmm" and his little eyebrows were in the down position until we ran out of the carrots from yesterday. Then the little baby tears came.

"Cody - quick we need another jar!"
He comes back with a label less jar of green.
ummm? Shouldn't we stick with the same color at least?
So we are guessing that we gave him sweet potatoes next.

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

"I love the way his arm is raised above his head as if he were riding a bull :)"

baby bronzer

We have been forcibly feeding Cito rice cereal mixed with formula for over a month now.
Everyday.
Religiously.
Last night I read that he may still have a tongue-thrust reflex that is preventing him from eating solid foods.
Fine.
It should disappear by 6 months but in the mean time continue to offer food weekly.
We drove to the wrong side on Elkhart to pick up "baby crack" and jar food for mere pennies.
I lined my pantry with all of the tiny little jars containing unsalted, unprocessed, untasty, pureed food and decided to pop open an unlabeled jar from my baby shower games to give Cito- his first taste of carrots (or sweet potatoes?).
HE COULDN'T STOP EATING.
LITERALLY.
His little fingers wrapped so tight around the rubbery purple and yellow spoon that we had a hard time getting more out of the jar.
SUCCESS.
He still has the tinted color of carrots around his mouth and cheeks which gives him the cutest "sun-kissed" glow - as if we had applied a fresh coat of baby bronzer.
