I don't usually take pictures with the flash on.
I don't like the way that they turn out.
So, needless to say, Sweet Cit is not used to the blinding feeling & is now making this same squint face thing in every flash pic now.
GREAT. I'm raising a dork.
I've fallen victim to a marketing scam! I had a coupon for a box of Gerber "Healthy" snacks -so I grabbed a box of Banana Cookies. It clearly states that the contents will help my sweet boy with growth & development. I guess they failed to mention which kind of growth they were speaking of. Once I got home (& 3 cookies later) I discover what is really inside this box of health.
Some of Calan's lady friends stopped by Saturday night. I've always heard that friends have a great impact on your life. I just didn't think that he was old enough to be so influenced.
We spent the afternoon picking out the perfect pumpkin, riding a pony & going on a hay ride. This year is SO different than last. I just went through pics from last year's pumpkin patching & sweet cit couldn't even sit up yet! Time is super flying & he has grown so much in just a year.
It feels like we haven't had time to unpack yet. We have but our washing machine is NOT WORKING! Wednesday the repair guy comes out but I have a sinking feeling that parts will need to be ordered. I hope he can just clean out the lines or something and I can wash the 10 loads that await. During the past week in Wisconsin... We laughed WAY too much. Ate WAY too much. Stayed up WAY too late. And played WAY too many card games to even count. This was a trip much needed.
We are getting ready to spend next week in Wisconsin. I'm actually looking forward to the drive there. The leaves are starting to turn & Fall is my FAVORITE season. The air is getting crisp & I just finished hanging up Calan's sweaters. He has a lot of plaid too & layering is so cute on tiny little bodies.
After Cody got home from class this afternoon we walked to the park & had a picnic lunch. The sun is still pretty hot for mid September so we sat in the shade while Sweet Cit played in the sand.
Autumn is here... at least that what the cover of my Martha Stewart magazine portrays. So I'm slowly switching out bins of clothes. Storing some, hanging some, folding some. It's become a file cabinet type of storage in my basement. It's so hard to determine what size goes where. He can wear a 6 month top but in length 18 month.
I'm so lucky to have a helper.
Ummm... Why does he feel so stressed when his only job is to unload the clothes?!?
It's so funny to see this little nugget of a body -still unable to walk- standing in the middle of a room. He'll just crawl over to a toy and stand while playing.
There is a spot on my kitchen counter that has been unofficially dedicated to broken fixed items. They sit on the corner waiting for the super glue (gel is by far my favorite) to dry before returning to their not so safe spot. I wasn't even aware until recently that you could get the lid off of super glue once using it. I thought that it became a permanent fixture to the tube and it was game over. But now I see that if you are using it on a day to day basis the only problem you'll have is that there isn't enough to get you through the week.
We went out with friends for BBQ this weekend & Calan was anything but shy. He ate 4 pieces of mac & cheese which is quite the stretch for him! He also passed out some high-fives & tried on Lucus's hat. If you look closely -his teeth are showing through his gums- ouchers!
In the mornings Cito usually gets up about and hour before we do. Cody or I will just put him on the floor and let him do whatever it is that babies do. We have gates on the stairs so he has free reign of the entire upstairs. We do take the toilet paper off of the roll before we go to bed and put the plant that sits in our bathroom inside the tub so that these incidents do not happen again.
He has been sitting behind our curtains and apparently has started to tunnel his way out. Not in one spot but two! Just recently friends informed us that he may be going to China. Hmm.
I went into labor July 31 last year and just a few days later I was holding our BEAUTIFUL baby. I can't imagine our lives without him but have difficulty believing that it was just a year ago we met. I've been behind on keeping his baby book up to date but because of the wonders of iPhoto -and the fact that I take pictures on an almost daily basis- everything has been stored away by date.
I spent a few hours today going through neatly organized folders and writing some of the hundreds of Calan's firsts in his baby book... first roll over... first vacation... first food... first time in the BIG bath tub... first time sleeping in his own room... first step (which has been sort of an inside joke around here - I've been telling everyone not to let go of his hand unless the camera is rolling AND the house is picked up AND he's dressed cute).
BUT this weekend at my family reunion Amber let go of his hand & 3 steps just appeared. She apologized for stealing such a monumental moment but the damage had been done. Please feel free to send her a little hate mail http://www.facebook.com/arinard?ref=sgm No seriously, you should probably make it known that this is not something that can be replaced :)
I also pulled over 300 pictures to be printed and put into his scrap book. It's weird to think that SO many of his firsts are over -I mean besides GETTING TEETH or NEEDING A HAIR CUT or EATING FOOD (with texture). Those may not even happen until he's at least 6 or 7 -right? Cody & I joke daily about our developmentally delayed baby toddler but we think he's going to turn out just fine. Who really cares if he's 9 and still eats formula. At least he's happy and healthy and will have something to tell his therapist.
